Froggy Went A Courtin' AKA What I Do To Relax
Lizzy picked out some quilt fabric over Thanksgiving and I started her quilt. Got the top put together really quickly but then had to put it aside for several months. Last week I was determined to make time to do something I enjoyed so I got it back out. Put it together, quilted it, put the binding on and it was all finished this Wednesday. I present to you “Froggy Went A Courtin’”. Yes, I name the quilts. I’m a dork. I’m okay with it.

Lizzy's Quilt - Froggy Went A Courtin'
Lizzy picked out the froggy fabric and I found some coordinating fabrics for her to choose her four favorites. I think she did a great job with her choices. She definitely has an eye for color and loves the bright prints. I love it as well. This quilt makes me smile.
This was my first attempt at free motion quilting and it turned out fairly well. Only some “bird nesty” spots on the back but I’m learning as I go. This technique gives it a whimsical and light feeling which I love.

Lizzy's Quilt - The Scrappy Binding for Froggy Went A Courtin'
This was also my first attempt at piecing together a binding from several different fabrics. I LOVE the way this turned out. Next time I’d like to use smaller sections of the fabrics to get a more varied selection.
How many times have I said I love this quilt???
Stop and Go, Push and Pull
I start a lot of blog entries.
No seriously, I do. Stop laughing.
I start a lot. I finish few. What typically ends up happening goes something like this:
-While driving in the metro area on a various errand or while working at church on Wednesday night or sitting at play practice a FANTASTIC idea for a blog entry will hit me.
-I write the whole thing in my head, complete with my own built in laugh track, and it is witty and smart, snarky and hilarious
-Between then and the next time I sit down at my computer, many hours have passed. So, I open up the tab and title the entry. I may write a few lines and then the inevitable happens.
-”Mama, I need help with my this that or the other.”
-”Mama, can we go do this that or the other?”
-We actually have to go do this that or the other. (seeing a pattern here yet?)
-I save my measly beginning of a blog post in draft with all the good intentions in the world of coming right back, as soon as I can, to thrill y’all with my witty banter and stories of my fabulous life.
-Then……I don’t get back to it.
By the time I do sit down here with enough time on my hands to think, I’m all out of go go juice. My brain is emptied of all sarcasm and wit. All fun and frivolity have the left the building, thankyaverramuch. Here’s a list of recent blog topics that have run through my head at various times:
-Beautiful Deception – I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how we, as women, have bought into this enormous lie that we aren’t beautiful if we don’t all look like 22 year old, anorexic, bleached, botoxed, air brushed, fake boobed cookie cutter women. About how all those images we see on a daily basis shape who we think we are and how we think we should look. They begin to warp our sense of true beauty and they begin to make us think we aren’t good enough. That surely our husbands don’t want to see this stretch marked, three pregnancies mutilated body. Surely he’s revolted by this as much as I am. But hold up. Wait one stinkin’ minute. All of those things are flat out lies. Complete and utter deception. When we look at ourselves through God’s eyes and see us the way He does, our whole perception changes……
(Yeah, I know. Not funny or sarcastic or even close to the light hearted daily ramblings you’ve come to expect from me. Scary to think that every once in a while my brain kicks into high gear…)
-Our Garden-The Beginning I spent a whole afternoon planting seeds with the girls and taking a million photos to share with y’all. We planted flowers and vegetables and I wanted to share that beginning with you. I wanted to take pictures after the sprouts had made their first appearance…..
-Tweens, Oh They’ll Be the Death of Me Self-explanatory really. I mean, come on, I know y’all are dying to hear about the hormones flying through this house like a flock of deranged sea gulls. You want to know about how there is much crying and wailing and gnashing of teeth about decimals and how to roll up the hose. Who doesn’t want to hear about braces and bras?
I can say that at some point, I plan (emphasis on plan) to go back and finish out these thoughts into full fledged blog posts. Honestly, I do. Time will tell as to whether it actually happens or not. I can, however, share with you the girls school pictures for 2008-2009 school year.
