*Sniffle cough snort* Hi * sniffle gag*

Well, it’s official.  Even my PCM (primary care manager aka doctor I see most often at the clinic) says we should move.  Seriously.  She said that.

See, I started running out of my asthma meds just before the Snownami.  I had planned to make an appointment that Monday but, alas, we were snowed in and the government was shut down.  As the days wore on I realized I didn’t have enough of the asthma meds to make it through until the following week when everything would, hopefully, reopen.  So I made the executive decision to drop down to one puff rather than two puffs twice a day to make the meds last.  I ran out officially Monday morning.  Of course, Monday was a holiday and thus the clinic was still not open.

Called Tuesday first thing and made an appointment for Wednesday.  Went in to see my PCM and the following conversations ensue.

Nurse: Tell me the meds you’re currently taking.

Me: (this is where I regale her with the list of meds they have me on in an effort to control the “out of control” allergies/asthma)

Nurse: Doctor H will be right in.

Pause a few minutes wherein I read email on the Crackberry and wait.  And cough.

Doctor H: (walks in, plops down and sighs) So let me get this straight.  You’re on 3 allergy meds and 2 asthma meds and things still aren’t any better?

Me:  Yep.  Still full o’ goo.

Doctor H: Let me take a look. (She proceeds to peak in my ears, nose, and throat.  Tsk, tsking the entire time.  She listens to my chest and breathing, looks me dead in the face and says….) You need to MOVE!

Me: Um, yeah we’re trying.

Basically, the lowdown here is there isn’t anything else they can give me.  Which, honestly, is fine by me because I’m already taking way more medicine than I ever intended.  Doctor H proceeded to give me referrals to pulmonology and allergy clinics at Walter Reed.  My allergy testing appointment is next Wednesday the 24th.  My pulmonology appointment isn’t until March 3rd.

Get this, I can’t take ANY of the allergy meds until after both appointments are completed.  The antihistamines will interfere with the test results.

On the surface that doesn’t sound SO bad.  However, even ON the meds I was full o’ goo and feeling rotten.  Off the meds is NOT going to be pretty.

Doctor H said that depending on my allergy testing results the allergy clinic may suggest allergy shots which would help a lot.  However, she said if we’re moving to say no to the shots, wait until we get where we’re going and see how my allergies change.  If they improve with a change of location, may not need the shots.

Other than that life has pretty much stayed the same.  We’re still waiting for an answer about Steven’s First Sergeant package.  He’s waiting for an email response as to its current whereabouts.  Last we heard (about 2 weeks ago) it was being reviewed at AFDW which was, I think, the next to last stop.
