Yesterday (or the 29th if you ask Steven) was the "We've been here 3 years already" mark. Originally, as most of you know, we were to leave here September of this year. When we first moved here, I couldn't wait for that September day to get here. I wanted out and I wanted out NOW!! And for the most part, I am ready to move. But, in the last year I've made quite a lot of new friends and started doing a lot more things and I'll be sad to leave them (old and new friends alike).
This fact does not, however, change the obvious. I am a COMPULSIVE planner. I must know far, far in advance where we might go, what I can do to prepare for it, etc. For instance, if we can't get to Robins AFB or the Ga/Fl bases, we could easily go to Nebraska or Oklahoma or Illinois. Now, I don't know if you realize this or not but this Georgia Peach has never seen more than a scant dusting of snow. Said snow has never lasted more than a few hours and I've certainly never had to drive in it to get groceries or go to the post office. If we move in February/March (the time frame that is in place now assuming we can't find an assignment on our own) and we move to any of the aforementioned colder than a well digger's booty in winter places, we will encounter snow. Possibly lots of it.
How does one drive in the snow??? How does one go from the Gulf Coast winter where it's barely cold enough for long sleeved shirts to so cold I must wear mittens, scarf and a hat in order to feel my extremities??? For that matter, I'd need time to purchase all that winter gear since we (obviously) have not had reason to have it on hand before now.
Alas, we won't know for some time now where we'll be going. Going to Robins is looking less and less likely. The connections Steven has there are, sadly, ones with little to no pull in the "hey can we get this guy stationed here" department. And, I'm to the point now, amazingly enough after my incessant whining for several years, that if we can't go home then let's just go somewhere. Somewhere we might never had the chance to go without the help of Uncle Sam. Especially considering that this next assignment could easily NOT be our last. If we moved to Robins and then in four years had to move again....oy! If that's the case, I'd rather move to Nebraska (or wherever) for this assignment and see about going to Robins for his last base.
The next cycle of orders comes out in August. Steven alluded to the fact that there might be assignments he could apply for. Meaning, some of those assignments might have report dates that fit with when he's supposed to leave here. But here's what bites my tookus, several people lately have gotten permission to leave early. Steven doesn't think he can do that. Something about no replacement instructors and the newbie students actually needing somone to teach them. Heh. He said he could possibly talk to Mrs. K (his instructor supervisor) about it but wasn't sure of the likelihood.
So, I guess what I'm saying is, I'm torn. On the one hand, I'm ready to go! On the other hand, I enjoy my church, my church friends, my quilting group, my MOPS friends and the group, my Bunko group (Lordy do I love these gals!).
Can I take them with me??
Read this today as I caught up with a blog I often read. Loved it.
Today is the last day of swim lessons for this session. Katy has jumped off the diving board, gone underwater, swam and just plain had a good time. Emily has learned to not be quite so afraid, blow bubbles with her mouth (and sometimes nose), and decided to wait on the diving board thing. Lizzy has learned to kick, pull with her arms, jump to me from the side, and go under. That under thing though, she's not too fond of that. She'll throw a downright fit some days about it.
Steven's going to play cards with work friends tonight so Mama and I are going to order pizza, watch movies with the girls, paint toenails, and enjoy a girly time.
Katy's working on some of her schoolwork already. She's anxious to get started so I let her go ahead and begin doing the lessons from her Bible work. She's using Switched On Schoolhouse and is really enjoying it. We have all the other books and things for the other subjects but I thought we'd wait until Mimi's visit was finished. That would allow us all the free time to hang out, go do things and what not.
It's 8am and I need to finish up here and get things ready for swimming. Have a blessed day y'all!
First day of swimming lessons went well. Katy put her face underwater without much problem. Emily's still working on it. Lizzy, well, she doesn't get much choice. But she did fine. All you could see where those giant blue eyes and then she swished the water off her face and grinned.
Curriculum came in the mail yesterday. We're waiting on two other items to get here. Both have shipped, just weren't in that particular shipment.
Today is swim lessons and I need to swing by the refill pharmacy. Home to shower, rest, clean, cook and off to VBS and church.
Tomorrow is Katy's 8th birthday, swim lessons, park day (not sure if we're going yet), then Katy's tooth extraction at 3:00.
Friday is oil change in the car, make up day of swim lessons, cleaning and preparing for Mama who arrives Saturday!!
Now, I'm off to make sure everyone is ready to go.....
(saved from yesterday)
It's raining pretty hard here. We are supposed to be taking swim lessons this morning but with the lightning the lessons are cancelled. They're supposed to do a makeup class on Friday.
(new stuff today)
Remember, if you want to email me, please use christy@redneckmama.com. The bellsouth account is gone. House phone and dsl turned off yesterday. We'll be using cable modem and cell phones from now on.
I've got five more minutes in my computer hour and I really don't have anything exciting to say. Swim lessons back on for today. House cleaning ensues. Katy turns 8 on Thursday!! Mama gets in on Friday!!
Oh phooey, I need to run a few minutes early. Harley needs to go out and I need to get stuff ready for today.
Pics O The Day

If you've tried to email or call in the last few days and either form of communication hasn't worked, try my cell. The Bell*South service is acting crazy. I'm getting some email but lots of people are telling me they've sent things and get them bounced back. Who knows what is going on?!
Photos of the day for your enjoyment....older shots but I still like them.

Ok, I can't not say it anymore. I've held it in and I honestly don't know why I'm so afraid of other people's opinion of me and my choices so I'm going to out us right here and now. Eventually you'd all find out anyway.
Due to several factors and a lot of thought and prayer, we brought Katy and Emily both home for school. We'll continue using the curriculum they'd been using at Cedar Lake for this year and see how it fits. We'll make changes yearly to suit us and the girls. I'm going into this without the concept of quitting. This is what's best for all of us and I will make it work.
Part of the problem before stems from my tendency to hole up in here like a hermit. Never wanting to get out and do things and shying away from the outside world. All of that seems silly in light of the fact that the homeschool group has OODLES of activities the girls can participate in on a daily/weekly basis. Lots of opportunities for them to play, learn and create with other kids. All of those chances allow me time to unwind and to connect with other moms. Taking advantage of their Mom's Night Out as well as making the plans for (and following through with)a regular date night will definately help with the stress level.
Whew. So it's out there and I feel better. I haven't blogged lately because that's the topic on my mind lately. You can expect to hear about this frequently so if you need to skip those posts, that will be ok.
Now, on to the rest of the story....
Steven has Relay for Life tonight so the girls and I are going to have pizza, watch movies, paint toenails and goof off. We'll spend most of the afternoon in the pool and generally wear ourselves out.
Speaking of the pool, Harley has decided he loves to be in it. The water is just deep enough that if the girls are splashing around he has to swim when the wave comes his way. Otherwise he's prancing around, chomping at the water, jumping up and splashing the girls. There were giggles galore yesterday during Harley's romp in the water.
What else, what else.....
Oh, tomorrow we run to Sam's to pick up a table and chairs as well as back to the unfinished wood store to pick up the bookshelves we bought yesterday. They were normally about $300 more expensive but were marked down simply because they were not originally intended as bookshelves. They were built as jelly cabinets but the manufacturer forgot the doors. Voila! Inexpensive NICE wooden shelves! And really, who can ever have enough bookshelves??
My mama comes next Saturday!!!!
Going back to a habit that I loved doing....Photo of the Day!

Before anyone assumes I'm dead or pelts me with small objects I thought I'd post an entry. Not that I have anything profound or wonderful to say. Well, we all know that never stopped me before.
Steven's parents were here for a visit and to celebrate Lizzy's birthday with us. Kenneth shares the birthday with Liz and it's fun to have them together for the special day. We stayed busy most of the time they were here. We went to the Exploreum in Mobile, watched a movie, goofed off, the boys played golf and it rained. A lot.
Katy had her first teeth pulled today in preparation for her orthodontic work. All four of the teeh she has to have pulled are baby teeth. The tooth on bottom came out easily and the bleeding stopped fairly quickly. Apparently the top tooth was coming at an angle which made it tougher to get out and the thing had a root as long as anything I'd ever seen. The bleeding took longer to stop and Katy was not enjoying that at all. She did however enjoy the "soft foods" restriction and proceeded to eat her weight in pancakes for dinner.
She has the next two teeth "extracted" next Thursday. I know, I'm a horrible woman. That's her birthday but it's the only way we could do it. Her dentist only does these Monday thru Thursday from 8am-Noon. Swimming lessons start on Monday. Katy and Em's class runs from 10:30-11:15. Lizzy's from 11:30-12:15. If she had the teeth pulled before the class she couldn't participate. After the class, same thing for the next day. The only way to get the tooth done next week (when it needs to happen) was to let the other dentist in the practice do the extraction Thursday at 3:00. Oy. I'm going to Bad Mommy Prison, I just know it.
