That shattered door...

It's still pretty much like this. Only duct taped with x's over each window pane. Who knows when our new door will come in.

Yots and Yots

To quote my friend Sonya, "Yots and yots" has happened since I last wrote to y'all.

  • Steven's Grandmother passed away.
  • We spent two weeks in Florida/Georgia as we said goodbye.
  • We drove a gazillion miles.
  • We had a great visit with the side of his family we rarely get to see.
  • Ate at The Varsity for the first time. Mrs. Louise requested that we all go out to eat together after the funeral. She was so right.
  • We were home one day when we broke the dishwasher. The whole top rack won't stay in it's runner. It'll be a few more days before they even come look at it.
  • The same day, we shattered our back door. I took pictures, but I haven't uploaded them yet. Steven was mowing the grass when he found a large rock. Thinking he was avoiding a mishap, he picked up the rock, tossed it near the back patio in hopes of not running it over with the mower and flinging it into a window. He tossed farther than he planned. He hit our patio door and shatter the outer pane of glass.
  • The girls have been attending VBS with our neighbors and loving it.
  • We are planning to attend First Assembly this Sunday.

I must go now. I've worked out this morning so I need a shower. The girls need a bath. Laundry must be done. Dishes must be washed (BY HAND!). The computer/weird and useless room must be cleaned out and readied for the delivery of our computer desk tomorrow. "Yots to do, yots to do."

I almost forgot to mention, I'm changing over to Wordpress. Probably on Saturday when Dj can help me figure out how to move things without screwing it all up. Won't mean much to the average reader really. But, this is what the test site currently looks like.

Knights and Castles and Jousting, Oh My!

Not so much with the wenches. Heh.

We've decided to start year-round schooling. I don't mean we'll never take a break. This will actually make taking breaks easier. Less stress on finishing work by a certain time frame. So, when the Grands visit (ahem! ahem!) we'll be able to take the time off completely, whether it's a weekend or two weeks.

So, we're going to do a study on knights and castles so we can culminate with a trip to Medieval Times!

Still searching...

We've tried a few churches so far since we moved here to D.C. One was a good fit but it's a very long way to go (almost an hour) and to be involved in the life of a church you need to be able to go to more than just the Sunday services.

The second, well, it wasn't a fit. Sermon was good but the rest was too...stuffy, too...something. Just didn't fit. You know a church is HUGE (we're talking something like 11,000 people) when we walk through the doors for the first time and the usher asks us if we'd like to help with passing the collection basket?! He didn't even bat an eyelash when I laughed (yeah, OUT LOUD) and said "This is the first time we've walked through your doors." He just said, "Well, if you don't feel comfortable that's ok." Um, ok.

We still had a couple other churches on our list to try. But, this morning I stumbled across a church that I think might just be right. See, our church in Biloxi was, obviously, an Assembly of God church. The AG website has a search function for finding churches in an area that, up until now, I'd only considered the ones that had a website I could peruse first. Call me cautious, whatever. I did the search again today and one name seemed to stick out. On a whim, I Googled it. And, something about this feels right.

Take a look. National Community Church meets in Union Station. Not more than 15 minutes driving time from here. Or one Metro line change from here (fare is $1.35 each if that gives you an idea). We're both excited about going next weekend.

Please, Lord, if this is your will for us, help us know, without a doubt. I don't want to stumble through four years here and not know why You brought us here. I know you have a plan for our time here. Help me not to waste it.

Amen.
